Unpretty Rapstar Season 1 VietSub is a rap competition where all the contestants and the host introduce themselves by rapping to the same beat. The rappers are allowed to start or respond to diss battles before the game.

The first mission in all seasons of Unpretty Rapstar is for the contestants to collaborate with judges, producers, and other contestants to create a music video for an original rap song. The video is mainly shot in one take, without any editing, and the rappers also have to write and arrange the song. After completing the music video, the rappers vote for who did the best and worst, following a fully disclosed procedure. The winner of the mission receives an advantage for the next challenge or the next part of the follow-up mission. The contestant who receives the final votes from their fellow rappers will be penalized by being eliminated from the next mission or from the song produced through the one-take mission.

There are also one-on-one rap battles where the contestants take each other down through diss rap battles. Unlike rap battles in Show Me the Money, these are private events without an MC.
