Tình Yêu Giả Dối, Love, Lies (2016)

Park Heung-Sik, a highly regarded director in South Korea, began his career with a television drama on SBS in 2008. Three years later, he continued to helm numerous films, including the notable Love, Lies, released in 2016. With a runtime of 120 minutes, the screenplay was skillfully crafted by Ha Young-Joon, Jeon Yun-Su, and Song Hye-Jin. The film features talented actors from the Korean film industry, such as Han Hyo-Joo, Chun Woo-Hee, and Yoo Yeon-Seok. Set in the 1940s during the Japanese occupation of Korea, Love, Lies follows the story of a young and beautiful girl named Jung So-Yool (Han Hyo Joo),a gisaeng (a highly trained courtesan in Korean history known for serving alcohol and entertaining guests in Chonsu-era establishments),who aspires to become the perfect singer. Meanwhile, her closest friend, Seo Yeon Hee (Chun Woo Hee),also a gisaeng, becomes involved with the renowned musician and top producer Kim Yoon-Woo (Yoo Yeon-Seok). The film delves into the struggles faced by these women as they strive for recognition in a society that does not value them, while also exploring themes of friendship, love, hatred, and the brutality of war.
